Surveying Instrument and their uses



1.      Theodolite:- It is a surveying instrument used for measuring both horizontal and vertical angles
2.      Prismatic Compass:- This is an instrument used for measurement of magnetic bearings. It Is usually small and can be put inside  the pocket
3.      Total station:- This instrument is used for measuring angles, bearings and distance of a line
4.      Electronic distance measurement(EDM):- The EDM is used for measuring both horizontal and slope distances
5.      Digital level:-It is used for measuring the difference in height between points on the earth surface
6.      Optical square:-A small hand instrument used for laying off right angle by means of two mirrors set at an angle of 45 degrees
7.      Global positioning system:- This is used for determining the accurate position of a point
